First climate neutral forwarder
As of 2022, Rotra is the 1st climate neutral certified freight forwarder in the Netherlands and Belgium after a successful certification audit conducted by independent auditor Preferred by Nature.
This means that Rotra meets the strict criteria for a climate-neutral organization according to the certification program of international sustainability consultancy Climate Neutral Group. How we do this? By measuring our entire CO2 footprint, reducing it obligatorily and compensating for residual emissions.
Footprinting
In collaboration with Climate Neutral Group (CNG), Rotra has mapped out the full CO2 emissions of all branches in the Benelux.
SMART reduction plan
Based on an analysis of this footprint, a SMART reduction plan has been developed that is in line with the international climate treaties and our sustainability ambitions. For Rotra, this means halving emissions in 2030 and completely emission-free in 2050.
Offsetting residual emissions
However, CO2 is still released in this transition to emission-free. We cannot fix this overnight. We fully compensate for these residual emissions by investing in a VSC Dutch biogas project: Methane fermentation and energy generation in the Netherlands. Dairy cow manure is converted into electricity, which reduces CO2 and methane and thus contributes to CO2 reduction, circular agriculture and the solution of the nitrogen problem.
Certification by an independent auditor
The footprint, reduction measures and compensation are checked by an independent auditor. Each year, it tests whether Rotra is meeting its reduction targets and still meets the Climate Neutral Group's climate-neutral standard. For example, it is assessed annually whether Rotra can continue to carry the climate-neutral certified quality mark – recognized by ISEAL.
