Insetting vs. offsetting

With us, you have several ways to offset or reduce your emissions. Whether you have an LCL shipment or a fixed tradelane, we have several options. The question is, which way do you want to reduce your emissions? Through insetting or through offsetting. Whatever you choose, we let you decide how you want to reduce your environmental impact on a shipment-by-shipment basis.

Rotra Green Footprint. Impact through offsetting

Offsetting is often translated as planting a tree. In short, it means offsetting your emissions by ensuring that the CO2 caused by your shipment is removed from the air somewhere else.

We offer Rotra Green Footprint. This is a relatively inexpensive and accessible way to reduce your impact on the environment. It provides an opportunity to use the offsetting certifications in your reports and in your communications towards your stakeholders.

Certification

Rotra is a partner of Goodshipping and Anthesis. This ensures that we can officially certify all offsets and reductions for use in sustainability reports and communications.

Insetting

Biofuel. What you don't emit you don't have to offset

Insetting means using energy sources that produce no or almost no emissions. That's what we do at Rotra through Biofuel. This only counts for ocean freight. Traditionally, Biofuel reduces up to 80% of emissions. Through overcompensation, we reduce emissions to 0%. The cost is higher than the cost of Rotra Green Footprint, but in return you have a direct impact by reducing within your own chain.

To confirm this, you receive an official certificate for using Biofuel, which can be used in sustainability reports and for communication to stakeholders. Additional advantage? Your share in the CBAM/CSRD reporting is significantly reduced.
