What is RoRo transport?
In sea freight, there are several different ships, each with its own advantages. Some are cost-saving, others have an advantage on volume. Rolling cargo is shipped via RoRo.

RoRo meaning
RoRo, or Roll-on-Roll-off transport, is used when rolling cargo (i.e. a vehicle) is shipped by sea via a RoRo ship. A Roll-on-Roll-off vessel, or RoRo ship for short, is a ship type with a tailgate or ramp from behind. This allows rolling cargo to be driven on or off board such as cars and vans, trucks as well as all kinds of project cargo. This method of transportation is often used by manufacturers and importers.

RoRo transport
Most suppliers use RoRo transport for vehicles with large dimensions and heavy weights. The advantage here is that with roro transport the loads can be loaded and unloaded faster, also there is less chance of damage. The prices of RoRo transport are measured differently than ´normal´. In RoRo transport, cargo is measured in a unit called lanes in meters (LIMs). It is calculated by multiplying the length of the cargo in meters by the number of decks and by the width.

● RoRo ships that carry cargo vehicles (PCTC)
● RoRo ships carrying cars (PCC)
● RoRo ships carrying cars and passengers (ROPAX)
● RoRo vessels carrying cars and containers (CONRO)
