What are TARIC and CN codes?
The TARIC code and the CN code are codes that universally categorize goods and are needed for importing and exporting goods. The Taric code is the code needed for importing goods from outside the EU, the CN code is used for exporting outside the EU.

CN code
The Combined Nomenclature (CN) consists of 8 digits and is based on the 6-digit HS codes (HS code). It contains the commodity classification prescribed by the European Union for International Trade in Goods statistics. This CN code is required for exporting to countries outside the EU.

Taric code
The Taric code is the CN code plus 2 additional digits and is used to import goods from outside the EU. Taric stands for Integrated Tariff of the European Communities. The digits are a combination of the CN code and 2 additional digits, which indicate the measures/obligations applicable to the import of that specific product. Some goods have multiple obligations, in which case the Taric code can be extended beyond 10 digits.

Taric-code and CN-code determine
When you have a specific product for which you don't know all the regulations right away, you can look it up in the Arctic TARIFF customs database. Everything you need to know about the regulations for your import/export can be found centrally and digitally in this database.

In the database you will find:

- Customs duties (such as import duties)

- Commercial measures

- Regulations (such as barriers, laws)

- Statistics

Each product has its own code with which you can look up what regulations apply to your specific product.
